No, emulation is legal, the ROMs for them aren't. But Nintendo has bigger problems than people playing horribly old games. (Not horrible games, just horribly old.)

    That statement is half-correct.
Emulators and ROMs themselves are NOT illegal.
    HOWEVER!
If you DO NOT own the system, then Emulating it is illegal.
And if you do not own the original cartridge, the ROMs are illegal.
Because when you have that, what you JUST did was stealing. You stole their System, and you stole their games.

Well, what if you HAD a gameboy, then lost it? And you HAD the game you are emulating, but was lost with the console. I DID possess these at one time. And I own resident evil 4 for the wii but not for the gamecube. But I do have a GC. How illegal am I? And like I said before,

Enough times to realize you need to stop being so picky.

This is why Emulation is useful. Because if you owned a console, and it was stolen, or lost, or etc. There is no problem, as with ROMs. The Resident Evil 4 situation however, is illegal on basis of what I think it the ROM.

Same game, different console. But how could you prove that you once had that console?
