You would only be able to push the tip, since its a spear...

(He's not pushing it back, he actually physically grabbed the spear where the shaft started to turn into the blade, and pushed it out of the way so it didn't hit him)

In other words he basically grabbed your spear -wooden part- and pushed it back.
